We all have a past. We all have memories, both beautiful and painful, that have molded us into who we are today. While I do not presume to be God, I do know that His Word is clear on shame, guilt, and His never-running-out love for us.

This is a letter written to you from God’s perspective based on His truth that says we are loved regardless of what we’ve done.

If you’d like to listen to these words instead of reading them, listen here:

To the woman who feels unworthy of God’s love,

I see you, and I know your hurt. I know the mistakes you’ve made. I see the consequences of your choices. I’ve witnessed the hurt done to you. No matter where you’ve been or what’s happened before this minute:

I love you.

My love for you is always present.

I have always loved you and will never not love you. Love is Who I Am. I showed you My love before you even knew who I was when I sent my Son to the cross. (Romans 5:8)

My love for you is unbreakable, unchangeable, eternal.

There’s no mountain I won’t climb, no wall I won’t break, no lie I won’t disprove, no depth I won’t wade to show you My love.

But sometimes, you reject My love.

You think of all the mistakes you’ve made and that there’s no way I could ever love you.

But I do.

In your shame, you push My love away, turn away My grace, forget My forgiveness, and reject my restoration.

And you know what? I still love you because I will always love you.

Your bitterness and anger are real, and I want you to hurl those feelings onto Me. I can take it. Give me everything you have. I can absorb it, and you can be without the weight.

I will never force My love on you: you get to choose whether to accept it. I love you too much to coerce, manipulate or force you to receive the love I give. I will always invite you to come to Me.

Just know that I’ll never stop loving you.

Other times, you work for My love.

When you think of all your mistakes, you may believe that you have to “work them off” to come to Me. That I’ve got a tally sheet with a column for “Sins/Mistakes” and another for “Good Deeds,” and that, if you just try hard enough, you can make them balance out.

This is not the case.

I love you just as you are because you’re My daughter. There is nothing that you could do to make Me love you more or less.

But in the back of your mind, you want to make up for lost time or past mistakes or poor decisions, and the truth is…

That’s impossible.

In My kingdom, there’s no quid pro quo or reciprocity or bartering. There is only My Son nailing your sins to the cross so you bear them no more. (Colossians 2:14) There is only you receiving His sacrifice.

I will never force you to stop working or serving, but please know that you do not need to volunteer, raise perfect kids, or lead the women’s retreat to pay Me back. I will always welcome loving service done from a cheerful heart because we’re in fellowship together. (2 Corinthians 9:7)

Just know that you’re under no obligation to settle old debt.

Precious daughter, My love for you is free for the taking.

My love is long, high, deep, and wide. (Ephesians 3:18) Nothing can separate you from it. (Romans 8:38–39)

I am your gracious God and redeeming Father, and I want you to know these truths about yourself:

Your sins are not remembered.

That sounds impossible, right? I blot out your sins for My sake. I remember them no more, which means they aren’t thought of again. (Isaiah 43:25)

Your hurt is exchanged for beauty.

I exchange your shame for sureness, your guilt for grace, your regret for relief. I’m in the restoration business. My love alone can make you whole. (Deuteronomy 30:3–13)

You are seen rightly when I see you.

You may see yourself as someone who’s run too far, too fast, for too long, as someone unworthy or beyond hope. But when you accept my salvation, you are clothed in Christ Himself. (Isaiah 61:10) When I see you, I see the righteousness of My Son.

I transform your mess into a ladder of grace that brings you closer to Me. All of your past has led you here, and I will lead you to what makes you come fully alive.

I see you and your future as unbroken, pristine, and radiant.

My love is ever-present, even when you mess it all up. Please don’t push it away or think you have to work for it. I only ask is that you receive it. Hold tightly to My hand for it is mighty to save and has your name written on it (Isaiah 49:16).

The One who knows you best and loves you most,
Your Redeemer God
